Do You Know What Your Brain Does, Why and How?

I want to share with you what I feel is some cutting edge, though not necessarily new, and important information about the relationship between our minds, bodies and brains. I am not going to go into a lot of details, leaving further research of areas of interest up to you. It is my intension to offer information you may not know, or remind you, and allow you to follow up as you wish.

Recently I came across TMS - Tension Myoneural Syndrome. It goes along so well with all the other studies I have been doing about the relationship of pain and disease (the body’s dis-ease with it’s environment) and the brain’s neural network’s relationship to emotions, DNA, and our conditioning (programming) as we grew through childhood to adulthood and into the rest of our life experiences.

TMS was first introduce by Dr, John Sarno - then attending physician at TheHoward A. Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, and retired professor ofClinical Rehabilitation Medicine at New York University. His studies withhundreds of patients of chronic pain led him to these findings: physical pain does not necessarily have (only) physical causes. Pain and dysfunction is caused by the brain sending a pain (or error) message to the body via the autonomic nervous system as a result of repressed emotions and stress. This causes our autonomic nervous system to activate our fight or flight responses, sending more of our blood supply to our organs, which then causes a mild oxygen deprivation to our nerves and muscular system. Rather than feel the pain of emotional stress (which we learned when young was extremely unpleasant), the brain will divert your attention into the physical body, using past “injury” sites when available due to memory of pain in that area. It does not have to be an injury area, it can be diverted anywhere depending on the individual. That is not to say the pain or disease is not real. It is very real, just the cause is often misinterpreted. He has written several books and his work his being used in clinics around the world to alleviate chronic pain and other functional disorders. Google Dr. John Sarno -TMS

The brain is a computer. It runs on programs established through life - patterns, or conditioning, established in the conscious and mostly in the subconscious. Repressed emotions become programs for pain when the body is not really physically in jeopardy. This explains pain when medical tests cannot show significant reason why there is pain or why it is so severe. This is more common than may be known to the general public.

Dr. Sarno stated that general arthritis from aging and past injury does not cause the pain levels many experience. Message tension from the brain causes the pain or dysfunction -TMS. Along with chronic back pain, sciatic nerve pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, and migraines are a few other examples.

Just the knowledge and understanding that we need not fear our pain or dysfunction and that our knowledge and understanding will allow us to “delete” our programming of pain and dysfunction is power returned to us. Knowledge that it is a pattern, a program/conditioning, allows us to decide to let go of the hold it has and allow new programming to bring about alleviation through body/mind alternatives. There are many facilities with treatment programs based on this research.

This goes along with what scientists and doctors have been researching for many years now on the body/mind connection. Dr, Joe Dispenza, www.drjoedispenza.com, Gregg Braden, www.greggbraden.com, Bruce Lipton, www.brucelipton.com, Deepak Chopra, www.deeprachopra.com, to name just a few, have all been studying the brain’s neuro-net, stem cells, DNA, and the intelligence within our own bodies to direct our bodies responses to both inside and outside influences - all on our own. Their studies show that the envirornment determines results, and that our DNA is not set. It is influenced by our inside and outside environments and we unconsciously program our body’s systems, including our neural system. We can actually change the programs/conditioning of our neural pathways, our DNA and the effects we experience. Change the environment, change the result. Thus we can change our emotional and our body’s responses to the experiences in our life by changing our understanding, perspective, and behavior. To quote Dr. Wayne Dyer, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” www.drwaynedyer.com.

In keeping from getting into too much detail at this time, please research these individuals, and others, for more information and explanation.

Ninety-five percent (95%) of our functions/responses come from our subconscious. There are our automatic systems, and also that which has been being programmed by our outside environment (people, places, events) since our birth. By bringing the subconscious programs to our consciousness and using the power of our mind, we can recreate purposely instead by default.

Another interesting process is ETF, commonly called Tapping. Nick Ortner has brought this technique mainstream. A very brief and simple explanation is : It works with using the meridians (acupressure points) of our body to clear unwanted emotions, beliefs, and symptoms by changing the energy flow within those meridians to correspond more with what we want. Again, working with the body/mind and brain. His website is The Tapping Solution. www.thetappinngsolution.com

Mike Dooley of www.tut.com is another of my favorites. His “Thoughts become things.....choose the good ones” says it all.

Esther Hicks, www.abraham-hicks.com, has written many books, worked world wide, with this message: Well-being is your natural state. You are either allowing or not allowing this natural flow in your life. Your beliefs determine your thoughts, your thoughts determine your experiences. Change your beliefs, change your experience of life.

From a metaphysical view, understanding life force energy (which is in everything) will help further our understanding of how our bodies function. Energy flows in and out of the body through energy centers called chakras. There are 7 major chakras located from the base of your pelvis to the top of your head. If you are not familiar with this please research them for a better understanding. The front of each chakra are the feeling centers, the back are the will centers. Energy blocked from flowing into the chakras causes emotional blocks. Energy not released from the body (stresses of any kind) cause physical blocks. These blockages will manifest into physical symptoms of disease and pain if not cleared. Each chakra deals with specific endocrines, organs and emotions. Depending on where the lack of flow occurs, symptoms related to that area develop. This ties in with TMS and other studies mentioned above. It’s about stressors of any kind, energy flow throughout the body, and our ability to release this stress - physical, emotion and mental.

There are many ways of looking at the process of disease and dysfunction both scientifically and metaphysically. Yet I find a very close relationship between all of it.

Knowledge is our power. What we put into our brains determines our lives. When we become aware, we have the knowledge and power to determine for ourselves. We are amazing physical and non-physical Beings. It is only what we do not know and understand that keeps us from using our full potential in all areas of our lives.
